Welcome to my blog!! I am a visual artist who sells on Etsy, and occasionally on Ebay. I have always been an artist, but the past few months have been the first time in my life I have ever tried to make a living at it.
It's a typical tale of woe. Girl grows up in a mundane suburb of Washington, DC, (specifically Falls Church, VA), drawing, painting, watching her Mom (who's an amazing artist) and thinking she's not that good, discovers she's good at something that might make money (perish the thought!), goes to college in rural North Carolina (Hi, fellow St. Andrews grads! All 100 of us...) to major in Chemistry, which is interesting to study, but not sure what I want to do with it. Upon obtaining Bachelor's degree, goes to graduate school in Biochemistry (Hi, fellow Wake Forest grads!), studies some more art (because in grad school, let's face it, you're poor, starving, miserable, why not be an artist?), and gets a Ph.D. in Biochemistry despite herself. Still doesn't know what she wants to do with it. Girl does two postdoctoral fellowships, somewhere along the way meets the boy of her dreams, and gets married (totally happy ending, only, wait a minute, I'm not done yet). Has some success in science, followed by some failure, followed by a complete lack of jobs in biotech in my town (BTW, somewhere in there moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, which is awesome), but wonderful husband is there for the girl, and says she can try doing something she's always wanted to do---whatever that turns out to be! So girl discovers http://www.etsy.com/, where everything is hand crafted and hand marketed by artists and craftspeople. So therein lies the beginning of my happy ending!!
